Buckingham is one of the most beautiful cities in England. It’s home to the famous Buckingham Palace and all its Royal residents, as well as many other amazing attractions and places to visit.
The Cenotaph
On 11 November 1920, they dedicated the Cenotaph, a war memorial situated in Whitehall, London, United Kingdom. The memorial commemorates all British and Empire armed forces who died during the First World War (1914-18). It is located on Whitehall opposite Trafalgar Square and near Buckingham Palace.
The Cenotaph is an important place for tourists because it offers a unique and interesting opportunity to take photos of London from above!
Here, you can also observe statues from different eras of history: Nelson Mandela stands next to Winston Churchill, while Edward VII gazes down upon them. Alongside Edward VII is his wife, Victoria Mary Alix, who lived until 1914 when she succumbed to tuberculosis and a subsequent diagnosis of melanoma, a form of cancer. Lastly, George V quietly observes the surroundings, offering silent encouragement to his subjects, exuding a noble aura.
Churchill War Rooms
The Churchill War Rooms are a museum and visitor attraction located in Whitehall, London. The war rooms were used by Winston Churchill during the Second World War.
The original purpose of these rooms was to assist in planning for an invasion of France and Belgium. Additionally, they served as a base for gathering intelligence and strategizing operations against Germany. In fact, it was here that he decided on his famous “Iron Curtain” speech which became one of his most famous quotes from that era.
Today you can explore this interesting site which includes many artifacts from both world wars (including some very cool tanks!). You’ll also find working lifts so you can see inside some rooms without having to climb up stairs yourself!
Apsley House
Apsley House is a Palladian mansion in St James’s, London. The house was designed by Sir William Chambers and built between 1768 and 1786.
The house is an example of the work of Sir William Chambers, who was one of the most eminent architects in England at the start of his career. People have described it as “one of Britain’s best-preserved 18th-century mansions” due to its minimal alterations or additions in comparison to other houses from that era.
Hampton Court Palace
Hampton Court Palace is one of the largest Tudor buildings in Europe.
William I originally built the palace as a castle in 1080, and it has undergone continuous expansion ever since. You can see many different rooms and halls within this palace, including Henry VIII’s Great Hall.
The park surrounding the palace has beautiful gardens and ponds that are great for spending time with friends or family members who live nearby!
Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace is the London residence of the British monarch. The palace was originally a royal residence but is now the home of the Queen and her family.
Henry VIII originally built Buckingham Palace in 1511 as his main London residence. After a fire destroyed it in 1691, the palace was rebuilt. However, the new palace was significantly larger and did not always blend well with its surroundings, especially in terms of light. As a result, there were occasions when it was challenging for staff members who worked in other parts of Westminster Palace to quickly access their workstations. In such cases, items would often be sent back to Kensington Palace instead.
The National Gallery
The National Gallery is the national art gallery of the United Kingdom. It has two galleries, the Sackler and Keircollection Galleries. It is located in Trafalgar Square, London.
The National Gallery was founded in 1824 as a collection of paintings belonging to the royal family and the British nation. Its first purpose was to display these works for educational purposes, but it has grown over time into one of the world’s greatest museums with more than 2 million visitors annually.
The gallery houses masterpieces from around the world including Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel Ceiling, Botticelli’s Birth of Venus painting, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa portrait (known as La Gioconda), Van Gogh’s Sunflowers painting (Nordic Circle), etc.
Royal Botanic Gardens Kew
The Royal Botanic Gardens Kew is located in Richmond, just outside of London. It’s a great place to visit if you want to see beautiful flowers and plants.
The gardens have many different sections: The Palm House, the Palm Walk, the Tropical Ravine, and more! You can explore them all during your stay here or just enjoy some time relaxing on one of their benches or strolling along paths through this magical place.
