People have inhabited the area for over 2,000 years, with evidence of Bronze Age activity and hill forts. In 1086, two settlements existed – one owned by King Ethelred II and another with a medieval church, St Mary’s Church, built on Roman foundations.

The Local Pubs! The pubs in Balham are an iconic part of the area and a place where many locals like to hang out after work or on a weekend afternoon. There is something very English about these pubs and they deserve your attention if only because they offer such an important part of our culture as a source point for everything from history (like how much better life would be without those pesky bars!), politics (they’ve been here since King George III drank here, food all kinds and drink beer.
