- Elephant grass is a major tropical grass. It is one of the highest yielding tropical grasses. It is a very versatile species that can be grown under a wide range of conditions and systems: dry or wet conditions, smallholder or larger scale agriculture. It is a valuable forage and very popular throughout the tropics, notably in cut-and- carry systems.

- খাওয়ারনোর নিয়মঃজমি থেকে ঘাস কাটার পর ঘাস যাতে শুকিয়ে না যায় সেদিকে বিশেষ লক্ষ্য রাখতে হবে। আস্ত ঘাস গবাদিকে খেতে দিলে অপচয় বেশি হয়। তাই মেশিন, দা অথবা কাঁচি দ্বারা ২-৩ ইঞ্চি লম্বা করে কেটে খাওয়ানো ভাল। এই কাটা ঘাস খড়ের সাথে মিশিয়ে খাওয়ানো যেতে পারে। এ ছাড়া দুই থেকে তিন ইঞ্চি করে কেটে খড়ের সঙ্গে মিশিয়েও খাওয়ানো যায়। নেপিয়ার ঘাসে শতকরা ৭-১২ ভাগ প্রোটিন আছে।
