It requires ample sunlight and well-drained soils and can spread itself adding a dose of colors to your garden.Growing Requirements:Portulaca are low-maintenance plants that thrive on neglect. Most diseases are actually caused, in fact, by too much care. Portulaca, more often than not, gets affected by the following pests and diseases- Root Rots, White Rust, Aphids. These may cause the plant to leave behind a sticky substance called Honeydew and cause black sooty growth which is actually a fungus. Snails and slugs can also be a problem.These plants prefer loose, sandy or loam soil with a pH that ranges between 5.6-7.5.These plants grow best in full sun.Portulaca germinates best when soil temperatures are between 24 - 29°C [75 - 85°F].The plants are moderately drought and heat tolerant. Water them every week or so during dry conditions. In the flower garden, watering is rarely required.
