Author Info: L M Deshmukh is a 1951 Chemistry graduate from the University of Pune, India. Starting his career as a chemist with the National Rayon Corporation, a giant chemical complex, near Mumbai, employing close to 12,000 personnel, he studied Chemical Engineering through examinations conducted by the Institute of Chemical Engineers, UK. The management soon entrusted him with the responsibility of safety within the organisation. He was put in charge of the education, training and development programme in addition to his regular duties of heading safety management function as Manager; Industrial Safety and Hygiene.
