Author Info: Sir Richard Claverhouse Jebb, O.M. (1841-1905), a great classical scholar, became Professor of Greek at Glasgow in 1875 and from 1889 held the corresponding chair at Cambridge, for a time representing Cambridge University in Parliament. His books include the widely popular A Primer of Greek Literature (1877), Attic Orators (1879) and An Introduction to Homer (1887). In the scholarly circle he is best known for his monumental edition of the plays of Sophocles containing the best English commentary on any classical author.
